How can I increase my sales?

To increase your sales, increase your prices and your customer numbers.

During a recession, it may be difficult or impossible to increase your prices but it is worth exploring the following options for use when the economy recovers. You may be able to increase your prices by improving your:

  • product.
  • location.
  • promotional activities.

Product

  • Partner with local tour operators to offer flexible packages for a bundled price (eg family tickets to your Activity / Adventure centre, accommodation and travel). A customer can then select a package to suit their requirements and budget.
  • Aim for consistently excellent customer experience and customer service.
  • Where possible, develop your product to appeal during low-season, eg all-weather options.
  • Provide additional services such as a pick-up and drop-off service from hotels.
  • Offer meals such as packed lunches.

Location

You can improve your location for example by providing the following:

  • Adequate signage and parking spaces
  • Picnic areas and facilites for children
  • Cycling facilities
  • Bins and rubbish disposal
  • Security/CCTV

Promotional activities

  • Link with local tourist operators to offer and jointly market flexible packages, eg accommodation coupled with the activity which you offer.
  • Consider collaborating with competitors in your locality for mutual benefit, eg sharing a transport pick-up and drop-off service.
  • Create a word-of-mouth buzz about your Activity business.
  • Where food is a feature of your offering, promote your cooking method or ingredients as being superior to that of your competitors via newspaper and magazine editorials.
Remember!

To calculate your sales, multiply the number of customers by the average price charged. This should give you a reasonable estimate in most cases.
